Subject: Blinker question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Howdy List,

I have a question about the blinkers on my '83 AC Westy. With the key off I can hear the blinker relay clicking if I hit the blinker switch on the column, and I also see the appropriate set of blinkers blinking outside of my van. I do not see the blinker indicator blinking on the instrument cluster however. If I disconnect the starting battery the blinking and clicking stops which rules out a cross-connection with the house batteries, I think. Also, if I disconnect the plug from the back of the ignition switch the blinkers/relays still blink/click so I don't think that it's a problem with the switch.

I've also noticed that my starting battery has been running down if the van sits for more than a week or so which has me motivated to try to track this down. I wanted to find out if any of this blinker activity is normal on other vans, like the flasher clicking when the key is off, though I don't expect that it is. Looking at the diagram I was unable to determine much, but wondered if they blinkers aren't supposed to have some power so that the emergency flashers work, or if there is a problem due to the improper bridging of these circuits somewhere.

Thanks,

Jonathan Poole
