Subject: odometer fixed
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes

Vanaroos,

After appealing to the list for advice on how to remove my speedmeter from the cluster so I could fix the odometer, I couldn't.

Scott sent directions on how to get the speedometer out, which worked right well. Unfortunately my odometer fixing skills weren't up to the same level. After taking it to a friend who's very clever with things mechanical the trip meter started working but only about 1/3 speed. Hmm. The main odometer started working backwards. Double hmm.

But there was a solution!

Money.

Sent it Palo Alto speedometer. They replaced assembly with the disks showing the numbers and viola! Fixed.

Of course you say I could have done this a year ago and have done with it then.

You guys just don't know how to have fun: removing and replacing the cluster and the speedometer about a zillion times, poking around with a dental pick, swearing, all those fun things, for a year, or more.

Just thought you'd like to know and many thanks to those who proffered advice and help.

Mike [Mr. Fixit]
