How bad is your spindle? An aviation or industrial machine shop can probably
repair it for you. There are many options such as metal spray or weld up and
machine and if needed re-heat treat it. At worst the shaft can be cut off
and a new one welded in place.

I thought this would be easy to find.  I guess all the old Vanagons
have been crushed or we're driving them around.  Anybody got a good
front spindle to sell me?  I'm in NC.
