Loren,

On my Pioneer unit you can display the directory of folders on the thumb drive. I have them catagorized by Artist, Album, Song - so it's easy to flip through and find what you want - and easy to read on the display (sure you want to be safe and pay attention to the road but the display is easily readable at a glance - not much different than having your MP3 in your hand). It is all controlled with the remote (or at the unit).

You can also set up play lists and such if you wanted. It also seems to have a fairly good random(shuffle) mode.

Sure it could also take a while to click through to what you want - but I wouldn't think anymore so than on your MP3 (unless it has a search feature).

I'll have to check and see if there is a limit to the size drive you can use per Jim's statement - I didn't notice that when reading the manual but it could be there. I currently am using a 2gig Micro SD card in a very small USB card reader and it's been great.
