Of course, I'm hoping to have solved the real problems for now!

It's just that in testing to make sure I connected the red to the red all the way back and such, I tested the red and brown thinking in my head that it would show infinite. When it didn't it left me scratching my head.

Just don't want to melt wires again when I hook the battery back up and do this all over again.
