High in the Great Smokey Mountains near the Tennessee/North Carolina border is a twisty, beast of a road with 318 sharply banked hairpin turns in an 11 mile stretch.

Dozens of motorcycles flock there each day to tackle the notorious “Tail of the Dragon,” as it is called. This spot on US 129 near Deal’s Gap is internationally known, and professional photographers set up at turns and take pictures to post online.

I got there by mistake, but there is no place to turn around so kept going. I spotted a very clean and neat white Vanagon Westy, perhaps 88 or 89, with Illinois tags going the other way, taking the turns like a champ.

This was on Wed, June 8th. Perhaps somebody on the List?

There is a picture posted online by one of the photographers at 129Slayer.com if you would like to see it in action.
