Hi Ed,

An 8mm bolt is used to secure the throttle linkage.

11mm bolts are used to fasten the slider tube that supports the throw-out bearing. They are M7 thread, and as such are the only application of that thread that I am aware of.

14mm is also equivalent to 9/16", and as such may sometimes be used on propane connections. It is also used to adjust valves on some engines. (particularly 1972 and later aircooled.)

I do see 12mm exhaust nuts often, but as far as I recall I have not encountered a 7mm or 9mm fastener in my vanagon-related exploits.
