Jeff--

I haven't read the BusDepot instructions recently, but I did install a bus depot seal on my bus the better part of 10 years ago. It all seemed pretty straight forward. I had a small problem with the luggage rack seal in that the replacement was less substantial than the VW "original." And the issue may have been my luggage rack was a little warped. I adjusted it all making shims out of a piece of leather to shim the luggage rack as I re-installed it. The shims went between the roof of the Vanagon and the luggage rack. It all worked out fine.

Bus Depot did offer me a beefier luggage rack seal if I wanted, but I didn't need it.

The finishing touch on the seal includes cutting the side pieces so they just about touch the front cross over rubber piece on the pop top. Then in that tiny gap I used RTV silicone sealant in black from an auto parts store to carefully fill the gap and give it a completed look. A dab'll do ya.

As I recall the VW seal was all one piece with the rubber from the sides "welded" or "fixed' to the cross over piece on the top. The replacement seals from what I remember have a separate piece for around the sides/ back, and then the cross over piece for the top. I think you have to cut or trim them all to size.

Good Luck. Best, Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
