perhaps you missed what I said then.. a 'real' bell housing.. like a diesel bell housing for an inline four at 50 degrees is always stronger and better than an adapter system. it's factory after all. adapter systems are hokey somewhat in general.

don't know if you are using an adapter or a diesel bell housing ..but I can tell you for sure .. that with a 5 speed trans... or a waterboxer 4 speed... the engine is further aft than what I consider 'the right, original way' .. which is 82 diesel Vanagon ... and if you have either the 5 speed with DV bell housing, or waterboxer 4 speed with DV bell housing .. the engine is further aft by and inch or two, compared to the 'correct' 82 DV engine position.

if you use and adapter with either the 5 speed or the wbxr 4 speed trans location and length.. then you yet further aft by another 5/8th's of an inch or so.

I suppose most people just care that it works. I want to have the more favorable weight misdistribution, and be easier to work on the timing belt end of the engine.

at least it's not a diesel !!
