Usually it's the voltage stabilizer on the gauge printed circuit. Cheap part, fiddly to replace.

My fuel gauge is not working. Does that automatically mean I need to replace my fuel level sending unit? Is there a way to know the sending unit is bad WITHOUT removing the tank? I would hate to buy the unit and remove the tank and find out that wasn't the issue. Anybody had any experience with this?
