Alan, I can speak to the issues of the newer seats in an 82 Westy. I put them in a few years ago. The doors will not close (properly) if the arm rests on the outside of each seat are in the down position. They will also not close if the seats are moved far forward (even with the seat arm rests up). The arm rest on the door interferes with the arm rests on the seats. When my vertically challenged 16 year old daughter started driving the van I was forced to remove the outside driver's side arm rest because the door would not close when she moved the seat full forward. Nice upgrade. -bret On 6/29/2011 12:40 PM, Stephen Grisanti wrote: > Here's a thread I began on thesamba.com on this topic: > > http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.phpt=401712&highlight=westy+seat++nonwesty+seat > > I sold those brown GL seats to a young lady who put them into her > early '80s van and she reported that the attached armrests interfered > with the existing armrests on the early doors so one armrest or the > other had to be removed. > > Stephen > > --- On Tue, 6/28/11, Alan Felder<dieseldoofus@GMAIL.COM> wrote: > > > From: Alan Felder<dieseldoofus@GMAIL.COM> Subject: Re: 1990 Westfalia > For Sale To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Date: Tuesday, June 28, 2011, > 7:16 PM > > > Will the later model velour seats with armrests from a westy or > vanagon fit onto the rails of an 82 westy without modification?
