Subject: Misfire when coasting?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hey everyone,

I don't actually know if this is really happening, so I figured I'd see if anyone has heard of it before. My exhaust pipes have rusted to hell. One of my headers is broken all the way through, and I have a rust hole in the manifold. That being said, my van is loud. The engine runs strong, and sounds great(other than the loud part). Idling is also normal and steady. Sometimes, though, when I'm coasting down a hill, it almost sounds like I'm misfiring. I can't tell if it's just my crappy exhaust that's clinking around and making it sound like that or what. It didn't make sense that it would misfire when coasting, but not at idle. Is this probably just my exhaust playing tricks on me, or have you seen this happen before?

Also, I've heard that a leaky exhaust can burn a valve. Is that true? And if so, what is the best way to check the valves? I've been putting off the exhaust replacement because it's so expensive, and I'll have to replace pretty much everything, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet soon. I emailed tencentlife from the Samba about his stainless steel pipes, but haven't heard back.

Thanks for the help!
