  I'd say get some rust dissolving penetrating oil/ liquid wrench PB Blaster
kinda stuff onto your O2 sensor right away.  Those things are a bitch to get
out sometimes...most of the time..  Start soaking it loose asap, just in
case.  And it sounds like that is what you will find causing your thirsty
motor condition...

  At the price of gas, I certainly can't see wasting it like that...getting
your mileage cut in half....that has to $uck.
