I put a BusDepot system on it about 15 years ago with a cross-over pipe which was available then. But, later talking with Jeff at Boulder Muffler about things, he said I should have brought the old one to him--that he could fix it up. My experience (with a couple) is that the cross-over pipe erodes from the inside out at the U turn. The rest of it hangs on and on. Anyway, I bet he could take an old one, cut off the flanges, create a new pipe and make it look nice. So maybe a good exhaust shop could do that for you. There is a lot of talk of SS exhaust and problems with SS on the Subaru Vanagon list. It is brittle and cracks too often. I'd stick with softer steel. Good luck. I'm glad you are keeping your '82 on the road. The air-cooled Vanagons were the best of the (air-cooled) VW buses. I've owned them all over the last 47 years. Richard |
