The temperature measurement system is invisible. Some have a laser that helps you aim the device but that is not necessary. The one at Lowe's doesn't say it has a laser so I assume it doesn't. It does say that the measuring spot ratio is 8:1. Meaning if you are 8" away from something it will measure a spot 1" in diameter.
