Peter,
The General Altimax in the 205/70-14 XL matches the original tire specs that
were on your van. I have used a number of sets and so far my customers are
pleased. For Florida driving they should work out fine and they are fairly
good in rain which you get a lot of. Do maintain and regularly inspect them.
Run the fronts a bit higher then the door sticker says for that size tire.
Say closer to 40 psi.
Dennis

With respect and for any interested pensioners or low income Vanagonites,
and I know we all have to earn a buck but for some of us this has become
impossible.
I really get it - these tires are awesome. There are others I've learned
like Nokian, Kuhmo, Michellin even General and others I can't remember.
What isn't awesome are the shipping expenses.
The tires at Ron's BD are on sale at $79.99 9thank you Ron) and I want five
- but the shipping is an additional $100.00.
Not to go on and on but when you are retired and there are NO MORE ways to
earn a dollar - I simply can't afford them - there just is no more money.
So - I need tires - as I am not giving up the Vanagon. I am left with only
one choice - I buy a lesser tire from a supplier who ships them for free.
How they do it I don't know but you can check the out here.

Might not be the perfect tire for fulfilling the 1991 VW Vanagon GL original
spec sheet but considering I am over 70 years old, I drive at legal speed
limits and do about 5k miles a year at the most and all I carry is myself,
Winston the Wheaton and sometimes my Commandant. Not exactly loaded down if
you get my drift. The tires are rated at 1,654lbs at 51 psi - I think this
is enough to haul this old careful Fogie.
I wonder if I will out live the none-spec tires or will they outlive me as I
potter around in one of my (also old) toys in the extreme mountainous wastes
of - SW Florida?
If I have upset anyone please know there was no intention of doing so. I
admire you Guys and all you represent. Thanks for listening.
