lol. Even if someone was not happy with their van at that price.. they wouldn't want to admit it, having paid so exorbantly high a price.

they *better* like it at that price ! they HAVE to like it at that price, no choice.

well.. I was feeling awfully bold being just about to put my very cherry extra well preserved 82 Sunroof Diesel Vanagon with fresh engine etc. etc. on thesamba for the price that is on its original side window sticker, which I have .. and the salesman's biz card stabled to the owners manual too, etc...a super well preserved extra nicely working quite origial sunroof DV with rebuilt engine ( turbo head even ) at the $ 13,045 original price.

but now .. heck ...should I make it $ 25K ?

and ...it is not *restored* !!! I think restored cars look fake. thankfully .. there is a class now called the Preservation Class at places like Pepple Beach. there are cars that are 80 years old, even 100 years old.. that have just been kept up .. gorgeous patina of age .. appropieate repairs .........man a 45 year old say Ferrari with just some 'nice age' showing.. 10 times more desirable than a restored car in my opion.

well preserved is priceless. there is a saying too ..'you can never unrestore a car' .

so show me the 23 window spllity that' extra well cared for and preserved..with real history intact ( of course that one being burnt had to be restored ) .. but one with the bubble gum stains cleaned up nicely but still there .. or origina engine and trans.. a super nice van but with 'patina of age' ...*Authentic* well cared for use as part of its history .. now THAT is worth something !!

I am not impressed with what I call 'cubic money'. any person who just happens to have managed to get a lot of money to come their way .. I am sure there are genuinne appreciative people who just happen to also have a lot of money .. but normally .. so what if someone is a billionair and they can buy a shiny restored 'whatever' for a hugely high price....particularily if cubic money was used to make the car look so 'fake new'. Not impressive to me ..if just sheer money is used to accomplish that.

though one likes to think that pretty much this splittie was a labor of love during the 10 year project . And that's pretty authentic.

ok.. Most likely ..........my 82 Sunroof DV is the best preserved example of what it is , and with a freshly rebuilt engine and a few tasteful upgrades on the engine , and driving and working perfectly that there is in North America. A VW dealer would be proud to have it in their showroom even. ok... $ 50,000 ! lol ! and it is Not Restpored ! ( I'll put that in the ad .......restored cars suck compared to genuinely well preserved ones ) and you cain't touch that baby ..and she's 29 years old, and been indoors or towed behind an RV much of her life. And the engine operates like it is brand new.

another 10 years if just kept well preseved....this DV could be way up there too. If GW was selling it ..right now it would be 50K even. what crazy fun ! scott

I've seen an $88k Syncro Westy and spoke to the happy owner. There have been reports on the GW site stating high $90k's. Guessing your $70k below has been breached a few times.
