Thanks for the tip rocket! I have a hot water system that uses my city water port, see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9769028@N07/ or I would opt to use that for the connection. I'm hoping the mudflap will block most of the crud, and of course those dust covers should keep the crud off the actual connectors.

I personally don't worry about water with these connectors. The voltage is too low to be a problem, and the construction and materials used make them pretty much unaffected by water. But on the van underside they could get packed up with crud, so dust covers might be a good idea.
