I messed around with those old school mirrors. Minor pain, and never quite right. Although an ugly, kludgy "fix", I got my p-side mirror to stay in place with SS clamps and split piece of rubber hose. But. Well. Yuck.

Keep an eye out for some power mirrors at your local wreckers. You don't need the power function. They are built so you adjust mirror in the housing itself. They "lock" into a given position at base swivel so stay in place really well.

They are the best!
