The steel bushing should really be able to move. It provides some float to compensate for slightly different mounting flange dimensions on the compressor. A tap should be able to cleat the threads as it is quite robust. For the rear if needed a heli-coil will do the job. The correct size goes all the way through. A lot of thread. Hard to believe all of it is destroyed unless some already used the wrong tap or really forced the wrong thread through it.

So I'm ready to install my new AC compressor only to find the bolt holes in the casting are totally gone on one end and badly buggered in the bushing on the other.

Anyone have an y good idea about h ow to repair this? Can I drill out and install a helicoil in the aluminum casting where there were threads in the aluminum at one time? I can use a tap and try and straight up the threads in the steel bushing on the other side. If that doesn't work, I'll have to drill out the steel bushing and replace it with something. ETKA doesn't show that steel bushing so I'm not sure how to deal with that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
