short shift kit not recommended !

really .. the stock shift linkage is nigh perfect ( if just maintained !!..please )

with short shift kit, effort is higher.. there is less 'feel' about how the shift forks move the inner works etc.

there is nothing to gain .. and we're not drag racing, so saving .000002 seconds on a shift is of no use.

and that would just trash syncro's in the gearbox anyway. If I bought a used vanagon with a short shift kit on it ..I'd remove that immediately.

Put in power steering and make sure that the shift linkage is in good shape and kept greased. Consider putting in a short-shift kit if that's an issue.

That should go a good way toward pleasing your wife, and you probably won't mind either.
