don't stop there. keep going. remove the cover there , that exposes the forward end of the throttle cable.

in the middle of the van you'll see a junction. Undo that . pull forward cable out of the white tube going forward. blow out the white tube with compressed air.

etc... just service, adjust, lube, and 're-do' the entire throttle cable installation. check for at least 95 % throttle at the engine with pedal on the floor . do that with the engine not running of course.

if the white tube tries to slide forward in the body .. secure it at the front with a small hose clamp so it can't do that.

it is ALL about lubricating, adjusting, and treating and preventing corrosion. Most vans don't even get that much actually ..many sure don't. Most vans have never had their throttle cable system really serviced and cleaned. at a typical shop.. sure, they'll put in a new cable .. but that , by itself, is really incidental to the real process of doing it completely and correctly.

Seriously....'replace the part' is incidental to the read process of doing a full and complete job.

lube the throttle body too. check that throttle switch is making contact at idle ( a huge portion of them are not anymore ..a bad thing. )

To do something like this really right .. to address related and associated adjustments and stickiness/corrosion ... is much more than 'just replacing the part.'

most vanagon repairs I see are 'just replacing the part' .. which is not the whole real job at all usually. Scott www.turbovans.com VROOOOOM !!
