Subject: Hesitation starting in 1st gear
Content-type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Good morning all!

My '86 Auto Vanagon Westy with 127K just started hesitating/bucking/slipping? when pulling off from a stop. My analysis so far is that it only occurs when just starting off in 1st gear (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd are fine). There is no hesitation when starting off in reverse. There is no hesitation when I rev the engine in Park or Neutral. A/T fluid is between the high/low marks after warm-up and I checked differential gear fluid last night and was fine. Both A/T fluid and Diff gear fluid were changed less than year ago. The bell housing area is darker than the rest of the transmission as if it has thrown minimal amounts of fluid around, but not enough to notice on the dipstick. My symptoms may be moot, considering that this transmission has not been rebuilt, but other than the starting off in 1st gear issue, the original trans and engine run fine.

Thanks

Kevin
