Fettiplace, in his seminal work "Dwile Flonking in the Pink", (pink referring to the predominance of that colour in the maps of that time) predicted these schisms. His paper was heavily criticized when published, many felt that his tolerance of rule evolution was heresy.

To this day, whenever a player is caught employing a "Colonial Gambit", he or she is required to pay a forfeit, a "Pettiplace", which includes drinking one can of Pabst Blue Ribbon, singing one verse of Waltzing Matilda in falsetto, and forcing the rear legs of a sheep into a wellington boot.
