Good idea. Though with tencentlife's external oil cooler's banjo adapter installed, there are two hoses down there crowding access to the filter so it's a bit of a challenge grabbing aholt of it. And the replacement oil filter is necessarily shorter (a filter used on Saabs) so the amount of oil removed per dump is less than with the stock Vanagon filter. I think in my case it would be easier to just drain the sump and dump in new oil. Still, it's a useful method that someone on the road who discovered he has overfilled the oil could use! Add that to the bag o' tricks. -- RJS On Thu, 2011-07-21 at 00:02 -0700, Scott Daniel - Turbovans wrote: > much easier .. > remove the oil filter ( and no .. > the engine oil will not run out when you remove the oil filter.. > something that people seem to wonder about ) > > empty the oil filter, > screw it back on. > you've removed a cup or two of oil. > > not too hard. > Even less Duh. > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Rocket J Squirrel" <camping.elliott@GMAIL.COM> > To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 8:30 PM > Subject: Strategy for low-mess oil drain. > > > > (Number 287 In A Continuing Series Of Knucklehead Questions) > > > > I used to change the oil in my aircooled every 1,500 miles.
