Power steering fluid makes and awful stink and smoke when it hits the exhaust, and it wouldn't affect the instrumentation or the way the car ran. It would eventually steer hard but not before you stunk up the town. The only other place above the muffler that comes to mind is the seal on the oil cooler. That would also make a nice stinky cloud. What about the main coolant tank?
