RE: Understanding Tires Ratings One of the confusing things is selecting tires for our Vanagons is the reference in the original specs to 'Ply Ratings'. Ply ratings are a throwback to bias ply tires and were replaced or supplemented with 'Load Range' like A, B etc (we want C or D) and that is now being superseded by 'Load Index' numbers (we want 96-97 or better).
