The Eurovan was still limted to ~25.5" outside diameter so the change to 15" wheels (to clear the larger brakes) made selection even more limited. Typically they used 195/70-15 or 205/65-15 load range "C". Finally at the same time they went to the VR-6 they offered a 225/60-16 Extra load. Even a standard tire in this size will have a 98 load index. The XL typically will be 101 or 102. This size also works very well on the Vanagon except it will not fit in the stock spare tire location.

That document doesn't look updated in any way to 2002. Or maybe I missed it.

I'd be curious what tires (and specs) VW of SA put on their vans after they went to 15" wheels. More of a modern size no doubt. My personal opionion, the 185 tire is a dinosaur. We're lucky they still make something that fits the vanagon, but I don't think it is nearly wide enough.
