John Muir in his "Idiots Guide" had a write up on oil temps, gauges and the like. As I recall he talked about the temps where engine oil broke down, 210F pops into my head. My '71 came with an oil temp gauge and I was shocked by the temps I reached climbing hills, when I put a full flow external oil cooler on it the temps stayed lower and the engines last longer.
