I toured the Oregon Coast with my Vanagon 2 years ago; from the California border to Astoria.  It's ALL very nice in summer.  Careful of some campgrounds near marshes...blood-thirsty mosquitoes (if in doubt, ask the ranger at the pay booth before you check in).  The first campground we stayed at when entering Oregon was Harris Beach, right on the ocean:  http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/map_of_Harris_Beach_State_Park/r/campgroundMap.do?page=map&search=site&contractCode=OR&parkId=405331&topTabIndex=CampingSpot  It would be worth it to pay extra for a reservation and get sites A24 or A25....ocean views, privacy, hot showers.  There was one couple on their honeymoon there!  (....decorated car, etc.)  The entire campground is nice, but those ocean view sites are really good.  Even blackberry vines...oh yeah, an ice-cream truck came through the campground around 8 pm...not everybody's idea of a good thing but we liked it (fresh berries on a half-melted ice-cream sandwich on a balmy summer night!) In general, was very impressed with Oregon State Parks and campgrounds....and there are  a LOT of them along that coastline.  Perfect in August. Rich San Diego

Me and my girlfriend will be cruising Oregon, along the coast, the weekend of August 13. I've surfed the web researching available camping of all sorts. Lots of good information there, but it would be foolish to not exploit the wisdom of the list. Any information is welcome, along with any advice. If you have a location that is dear to you, it can be shared privately. I've camped along this coastline before, but did not have the five days I have now. Thanks, Miguel
