Good idea.
Though with tencentlife's external oil cooler's banjo adapter installed,
there are two hoses down there crowding access to the filter so it's a
bit of a challenge grabbing aholt of it. And the replacement oil filter
is necessarily shorter (a filter used on Saabs) so the amount of oil
removed per dump is less than with the stock Vanagon filter.
I think in my case it would be easier to just drain the sump and dump in
new oil.
Still, it's a useful method that someone on the road who discovered he
has overfilled the oil could use! Add that to the bag o' tricks.
