Mike,
I sent you a pic of your van with the components which will poke out of the rear deck. I assume that's you mean below with the term "hatch". It doesn't stick up that much. You really need to look at it in person. Brian might be able to just modify your existing hinges.
Had a set of those hinges many years ago. It changed hands several times three times before I got it. IIRC, I sold them to Loren, still unused.
