sounds wonky to me.
I wouldn't do anything else until that was working right.
They're a weak link almost.

it's an input to a computer for goshsakes.
that connector also is a weak link. - the stock one after many years.

I'd check that timing is advancing properly too.

coolant seldom gets into the oil on waterboxers..
but you can have all kinds of coolant issues besides that one.

is it running up to temp ?
very important.  Some people think 1/4th on the gauge is good ..it's not.
as I said ..if temp sensor II shows only one resistance..toss that one and
get another one to start with.

and there is a whole thing about shorted oxygen sensor signal ..but I have
not run into that myself.
