Subject: Alternative PS Pump
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

The prices of the PS pumps are getting way out of hand and more difficult to find. Hs anyone tried any alternative pumps other than the ones that came with the Vanagon. Will a pump from say, a BMW, fit the Van. I know the pumps are either Mavel or ZF and those brands are on the BMW's. Don't know what other vehicles might share the same pump.

My foray into PS Pump land produced prices line $375 and $425 - rebuilt. That just seems pretty far out there. I have found an A1 Cardone pump advertised as being a replacement for the one on the Vanagon - brand new - $98.00. Anyone ever tried this brand?

There has got to be a better way. These pumps are simple vane pumps and one would think simple to repair.

John
