Good idea. In fact, the rear screen is a fairly robust piece and might
do the job adequately, although it does not attach to the bottom where
the axe* lurks, waiting to fall out and chop off a foot. But it does not
look difficult to mount additional snaps between the engine cover and
the hatch to secure the bottom edge.
If I decide to go with a cargo net, I'd need to figure out some swell
way to attach the mating snap parts to it.
Or maybe a telescoping shower curtain rod could be strung across the
opening as a good enough barrier. Lemme see about that. I'll be right
back. Yep, one could be fitted there.

* Merely an example. I'm not so simple that I need folk to suggest that
I not keep the axe there. I have plenty of bits of camping gear that
after a bumpy ride are just itchin' to fall out the back when the hatch
is opened. Had the wheel leveling ramps tumble out on the last trip, and
the little plastic "ammo" box in which I keep my latrine stuff (toilet
paper, etc.) was right behind.
