Stephen, I used three different ceramic coating companies that were supposed to be reputable including Jet Hot to coat some stock Vanagon headers, and a muffler for a 2.1l Vanagon that I worked on several years ago. The ceramic coating on all of the parts starting having issues almost immediately. You could see rust bubbling up from underneath. The next thing that happened about six months in is that the coating started peeling off in sheets. The muffler had glass beads rattling around in it. I was just not impressed by the results especially since it was expensive and you had to spend money shipping the parts to and from the coater. Of course I could have probably taken the pipes off the van and sent them back to the coater under warranty, but that would have cost me more money/time and I didn't want to invest any more into this mess.

Just wanted to let you know my experience with ceramic coatings. Just FYI.

As much trouble and money as the replacement is likely to be, does this type coating actually extend the life of the system and is it worth it? If you have experience with this or specific recommendations on which product or vendor to use I'd appreciate it. > > I expect the process will include test-fitting the new system when it arrives before sending it off to be coated, to ensure that when it comes back there will be no surprises. > > Stephen >
