Hi Everyone,
I am in need of some advice.
I have an 88 GL Wolfsburg Edition with power windows.
I replaced all the switches 6 months ago, replaced the drivers side motor and the passenger motor is still good albeit slow.
The power windows were working just fine up till today when all of a sudden there was a stutter in the power. It started to work then would stop and start again. Then it just stopped working.
Later in the day I removed the door panel to see if I could see any breaks in the wires, or any burnt connections.
All the connections were clean. I had used some sandpaper on them when I installed the switches and they were all perfectly clean and shiny.
I checked the Fuses and all is good.
I had moved the main cable wrap within the door and tried the switch, it was working again. So I closed my drivers side window. When I tried the passenger side it was dead with no power again.
I moved the wires again but after 15 minutes of moving them with no success I gave up and covered my open passenger window was plastic as we are expecting rain for the next couple of days.
Ken Wilford over at www.Vanagain.com (great guy and great vendor IMO) told me to look for a broken wire in the door where the cable wrap of wires feed through and to remove the giant rubber sleeve to try and locate the damaged wire.
Now this is where I have no idea what I am doing and need your help in trying to locate the bad cracked wire.
1. How do I remove that rubber boot sleeve. It seems like its pushed into the drivers side door behind a circular groove. I tried pulling, pulling from an angle, but it does not budge. I placed my hand within the door and it felt like the rubber protective boot over the wires is extending into the frame of the door. So I have no idea how to get the boot off. Ideas?
2. How do I locate this wire that is supplying the power that is broken?
- I do have a volt meter and wire tester but barely know how to use it. So if you can provide some basic instruction it would be great.
3. Which wires do I want to pay attention to?
I read on another post that I should be looking for the black/yellow wire? Is this correct?
4. How do you recommend I try and fix this?
5. Why is the passenger window so much slower than the driver side?
- Is it not getting enough juice or could it be it needs to be lubricated?
- If it needs lubricating is it possible to do while it's still in the door or do it's have be removed from the door?
