Water cooled Vanagons don't have a cold start valve.

If at any time you get stranded for lack of EFI injection you can hot wire your cold start valve to spray continuously to get you home as I did in the 80s' on a 914 on a raining cold winter morning N. Cal. morning (2AM) Only 13 mpg but what the heck...beats wait'n for a tow truck & drive as fast as limits permit. The same amount of fuel is introduced into the engine intake per minute whether at 70mph or 35mph The faster the better!!!
