I did that same thing with the lights...disabled the door switch on the driver's side by cocking it behind it's housing. All the other lights work when the doors open...if I leave them turned on, like Alstair mentions....I just don't find I need an interior light every time I get into my van...and if I do, I switch one on....And I Hate! buzzers in cars.... but that is just my personal preference...If you want an alarm to tell you the lights are on.... by all means...add it.

I have said it before, one of the main reasons I enjoy my Vanagon so much is because of it's simplicity. Mine has power nothing, no alarms, no automatics and I wouldn't have it any other way... If I can't remember to turn off my lights...I deserve the dead battery. If I get too lazy to wind up my own windows or push down my door lock buttons, one by one, if I get too busy to 'select the proper gear' or too weak to turn my steering wheel....I'll get me a mini-van that will do all that for me...
