If you take I40 anyway, El Morro National Monument is just a little way south of the Interstate, on an ancient route from Zuni to the Rio Grande pueblos. A reliable tinaja, some amazing inscriptions, a nice trail to stretch your legs on up to the ruins on the mesa. It has a small, simple campground. Now is fire and thunderstorm season, and the Pinyon/Juniper forest is very dry, so there are fire restrictions, and a Westy is an ideal refuge. If you camped there at night, you could tour the monument in the morning, and be in Santa Fe that evening easily.
