actually, i believe tragedy has been averted...yes i've had offers since
posting of other dead dometics from which to obtain the needed parts.  i
love this community!  thank you to all for your helpful assistance.

as an aside, the gentleman who is working on the fridge told me that the
part was "unobtainable."  he said he'd spent quite a bit of time calling
around trying to find the part and people just laughed at him.
obviously, he was not asking the right people!
