Looking at the instructions, and the fact that they say that if the ammeter reads backwards you can reverse the connections to terminals 1 and 3, I'd say the shunt could be in the battery ground leg instead of the hot leg and you'd not need any fusing. -- Jack "Rocket j Squirrel" Elliott Bend, Ore. 1984 Westfalia.
