Are we talking the tie rod boots that go on the rod and rack or the little
boots on the outer tie rod ends?
The rack-tie rod boots are part#251419831A. For the ends, most likely if the
boot is shot so is the joint.

The reason they're not listed on the site for Vanagons is that VW never
listed a replacement boot in any of their parts books, fiche or ETKA. I
make it a policy when constructing a model/year database for the print and
web catalogs that I follow as true to VW's model/year database to be as
accurate as possible. Same reason for accurately using VW's numbers as true
to their origin in the factory database.
Of course, there will be "bastard" VW numbers created for items that never
were available separately, but again I try to use what would be the most
close and "logical" in their numbering system. Most other places "shoot
from the hip" with their own numbers, sometimes nowhere near logically close
to the item area, because they don't have info like I do or have incorrect
numbers created by someone as long as 3 decades ago.
In the case of the boots, I will add in the "Additional Description"
on the web catalog that they can be used on Vanagon Tie Rod Ends sometime
down the road. I just happened to know they would work from test fitting
them on my own time.
They should last a very long time, the material Airhead/VWG used is far
superior than the original.
