Welcome to the world of cheap rebuilds. Front wheel drive shafts are amongst
the worst. If you think of all the steps/distributors required to get a part
to you and consider any actual labor used to "remanufacture" a part anything
worthwhile is going to be expensive.

Whine, groan, whatever one wants to call it. I have had numerous people -
including a professional mechanic - check this noise, an all conclude it is
the pump, and all agree the noise is not normal. I can remember when I had
my '85 van and the pump went bad. Sounded just like these. When I put in a
new pump, it was quiet again, except at the extreme range of steering motion
- as it should be.
I am really puzzled by this.Surely these companies are not doing such sloppy
work - or are they? Is their work so much less than Mavel or ZF rebuilds?
Mavel and ZF rebuilds cost $100 more than all the pump names I mentioned. Is
there that much difference in the quality of the work?
These little pumps are pretty simple. You would think you could rebuild
them in the field, but there are no parts kits other than seals.
Frustrating!
