That stock 50 amp fuse link is a common part found on other VWs and other brands. They cost under $1. Diesel VWs use it for the glow plug fuse and 86+ Vanagons with the big radiator fan motor also use it for high speed fan, mounted on an added relay block above the dash fuse panel. Mark

It took 20 years for enough oxidation/corrosion to cause the problem so I used the same type wire but didn't use the same type ring connector as the copper OEM seemed more prone to oxidation. I replaced the fusible link with a junk yard part and bet that part is no longer available.
