That's where the SA SS tanks were made to go. I think they were about 15 gallons or so.
People not accustomed to driving on miles and miles of remote dirt roads where there
are NO services, let alone fuel stops, would necessarily have no clue about the precaution,
necessity of self providence, not to be confused with paranoia.
