Subject: Oil level vs temp test
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes

Rocket:

I said lower your oil level you MAY like the results. I actually think that the temps you report here now are NORMAL! You MAY worry too much. 215 f is just fine. If you see like 260 f AND when you back off for a while (say 15 minutes) and the temp stays up at that level you should ask Mrs. Squirrel what to do. She will help you! :-)

"So . . . has anyone worked out the torque specs for the various flavors of oil plug gasket/washers?"

Enough! Take a wrench that fits the fastener, pull on it so that it feels that you are not going to break anything and you are done. There is a reason that wrenches are different lengths. Got a crush washer? Pull the wrench snug then give it an extra 1/4 turn. If it leaks weeps etc. give it another 1/4 turn.:-)

Ian
