Subject: Westy roof rack for two kayaks?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

The Hullavator can be problematic on top of the Westy or any Vanagon.  For one thing in the lowered position, the cradles are still about 48" off the ground, so depending on the weight of your kayak/canoe/boat, that's a significant physical lift, especially solo.  Secondly, there have been reports that "arms & cradles" when loaded have a tendency to "bounce" into the side of the vehicle, so watch the paint job at minimum. Lastly, it's no small effort to release, rotate and lower a kayak or whatever from the top of a Westy. The separation between the bars and the 8' height of the van with crossbars makes the Hullavator a two person operation and precarious at that.  Not to mention the cost of those things (seriously?) Pmail me for my Yakima setup with a Yakima Showboat.  And no I'm not a sales rep, just a guy with 60+ year old rotators cuffs. Gary
