My '85 had it (VS). I spoke to the dealer about it way back in '86. They said that is was a problem and they believed it was insufficient grounding, so they hung about four more on the various parts of the fuel management system. Then they adjusted the air in the spare tire, or some such other worthless fix. Eventually it went away with an engine replacement, along with a bunch of other parts. My poor old van sure learned a lot of colorful language as we drove across vast expanses of the West.

Anyway, it was an '85, it had VS, and it was well documented by VW dealerships by that time.
