That stock 50 amp fuse link is a common part found on other VWs and
other brands. They cost under $1. Diesel VWs use it for the glow plug
fuse and 86+ Vanagons with the big radiator fan motor also use it for
high speed fan, mounted on an added relay block above the dash fuse panel.
